When Expert Assistance Matters
Cases involving allegations of child sexual assault, child abuse, incest, aggravated child physical abuse, domestic violence, and related offenses can involve complicated forensic and investigative questions.
When an accused individual maintains innocence, an independent expert review can help retained counsel examine how allegations developed, how interviews were conducted, what evidence exists, and whether the available record supports professional conclusions.
Expert consultation may also become relevant when a parent loses custody under disputed circumstances or faces allegations from Child Protective Services involving failure to protect, coaching, Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another, or similar concerns.
When children face possible CPS removal or a matter has entered juvenile court, careful forensic review can provide counsel with additional information to develop an informed legal strategy.
Why Attorneys Need Experts
Attorneys practice law. Experts address specialized professional questions that may fall outside conventional legal analysis. Child abuse and custody cases can involve CPS intake workers, protective investigators, forensic interviewers, detectives, medical professionals, therapists, and other specialists.
A consulting expert can examine those components and help counsel identify areas requiring closer scrutiny. This may include reviewing investigative methodology, evaluating interview practices, identifying inconsistencies, examining assumptions, and assisting with questions intended for professional witnesses.
Mr. Tong works with counsel preparing for contested hearings and trials where allegations, forensic evidence, professional opinions, and difficult family dynamics intersect.
