Testifying Expert Services

Dean Tong has testified as an Expert Witness approximately 80 times in 20 states in multiple areas of psychology and social science.

His primary area of expert witness testimony lies within his subject matter expertise in child forensic interviews. Mr. Tong has been trained in the NICHD and NACCFI child forensic interview models.

As a lifetime certified and registered child forensic interviewer for the defense with over 30 years of experience in alleged child sexual abuse cases, Mr. Tong has reviewed and critiqued hundreds of child forensic interviews on DVD, audio recordings, transcripts, and related materials, often with approval of the Court through a Protective Order.

Additional areas of testimony include cognitive child developmental psychology, the handling of child abuse investigations by Child Protective Services and law enforcement, SAID, parental alienation, the 5-Factor Model of Parental Alienation, de novo and de facto psychotherapy of child victims, and risk assessment testing of the accused.

Mr. Tong may advise your attorney that the Court could designate him as an "essential expert" exempt from the Rule of Sequestration, allowing him to serve simultaneously as both Consulting and Testifying Expert during trial proceedings.

When Expert Assistance Matters

If you have been charged with child sexual assault, child abuse, incest, gross sexual imposition, aggravated child physical abuse, domestic violence, or similar allegations and maintain your innocence, expert consultation may be critical before plea negotiations or trial.

Likewise, if your children are at risk of removal by CPS, or your case is before a juvenile or family court, expert review can be an essential component of your legal strategy.

Why Attorneys Need Experts

Attorneys practice law. Expert witnesses provide professional opinions.

In cases involving CPS intake workers, protective investigators, child forensic interviewers, detectives, advanced practice registered nurses conducting sexual abuse examinations, and therapists, attorneys often require assistance from qualified experts who can evaluate investigative methodology and challenge witness credibility.

Mr. Tong possesses extensive experience in this field and assists counsel in preparing for contested hearings and trials involving complex allegations and high-conflict family dynamics.
