Dean Tong has been queried more than 30,000 times since 1995 in high-conflict cases across courts throughout the United States. As a Consulting Expert, he assists retained counsel with case strategy, theory development, and comprehensive case analysis. Following review of case records, Mr. Tong may identify errors of commission or omission, recommend relevant psychological theories such as SAID or Parental Alienation (PA), and suggest appropriate psychological or psychosexual testing of the accused. He works with attorneys to formulate cross-examination strategies and impeachment questions for adverse witnesses, including CPS investigators, child forensic interviewers, sex crimes detectives, and therapists. In jury trials, he may also serve as a jury consultant by helping counsel identify potential juror bias.

Dean Tong has testified as an expert witness approximately 80 times in 20 states in matters involving psychology and social science. His primary area of testimony focuses on child forensic interviewing and the evaluation of child abuse investigations. Trained in the NICHD and NACCFI child forensic interview models, Mr. Tong is a lifetime certified and registered child forensic interviewer for the defense with more than 30 years of experience in alleged child sexual abuse cases. With court approval when necessary, he reviews and critiques child forensic interviews in video, audio, transcript, and related formats. Additional areas of testimony include cognitive child developmental psychology, CPS and law enforcement investigations, parental alienation models, psychotherapy concerns, and risk assessment testing.

For clients seeking a more focused and cost-effective engagement, Dean Tong offers limited-scope forensic consultation services. Under this arrangement, Mr. Tong reviews and critiques child forensic interviews, including video recordings, audio files, transcripts, and written reports prepared by Child Advocacy Center personnel. He then prepares an independent written response based on his findings. Limited-scope services also include review of child protective investigations and evaluation of the competency and objectivity of governmental officials involved in the case.
